Travel to the Grand Canyon

- Image via Wikipedia
The Grand Canyon is a trip that is well worth planning as nothing quite prepares you for the incredible experience. No photographs give it justice and seeing the canyon for the first time is indescribable.
The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site found in Arizona. It is 10 miles wide on average, 277 miles long and a mile deep. Approximately five million people travel to the Grand Canyon annually. It is accessed via two main points: the South Rim and the North Rim and traveling between the two rims by road is a 215 mile drive. You can hike the trails from rim to rim, however it is a steep and arduous trek of about 21 miles, but said to be well worth the effort.
The weather within the park varies tremendously by location. Temperatures on the North Rim are generally much cooler than at the river. It may snow at the rim and be swimming weather at the river. Or, it may be cool at the rim in the summer and extremely hot at the river. Hikers need to be prepared for these weather extremes.
Some of the viewpoints and trails in the park have limited parking and need to be reached on the park shuttle system. This extensive shuttle service runs on the South Rim with three inter-related routes. It is a free service that usually runs from before sunrise until after sunset.
Things to do include hiking, whitewater rafting, flight seeing, mule rides, motor coach tours, stargazing, bicycling, online courses and ranger programs.
Any time is good to visit the canyon, although the busiest times are summer and spring breaks which are particularly crowded and require patience and tolerance. During winter the North Rim roads are often closed due to weather conditions.
It is definitely worth it to travel to the Grand Canyon at some stage. The memory of that spectacular view will last a lifetime and is good for the soul. You can fly in to one of the local airports and hire a car to get you around.

Prepaid Credit Cards Necessary as Airlines Reject Cash
When traveling with children or nervous adults on an air plane, it is a good idea to keep them occupied. It will go a long way toward making your trip more comfortable and theirs too. Trivia is a good time waster, and plane related trivia may even make the antsy passenger more comfortable if they know a little more about what is going on as they move from city to city.
How Does a Plane Stay In the Air? To greatly simplify the concept of flight, the curved wing on an air plane causes there to be less pressure on the top of it and more pressure, or thicker air, underneath the wing. That thicker air holds the plane aloft.
Did Your Ears Pop Too? The human ear has a tiny pocket of air inside it that helps people keep their balance. When the pressure of the air pushes on that little air pocket it changes the shape of the ear drum and that is why sounds seem different while the pressure is greater. By yawning wide or swallowing, pressure from inside the body helps to equalize the little pocket of air with the air pressing in from outside the body.
Why Does a Plane Ride Make a Person Feel Sleepy? The great amount of pressure felt on the human body combined with lower oxygen levels for the body to use causes the feeling of tiredness. Since the body has to work just as much as it would if it were standing on the ground, only with much less oxygen, it can feel like you walked several miles depending on how long the flight is.
Why Can’t I Hear the Movie They Are Playing? The simple reason for this is because earphones must be rented from the flight attendants. Just give them the prepaid credit cards and the sound will be available along with the movie.
